To start with, a minuteman called Frank George who's job is to catch illegal people crossing the border illegally as a volunteering work. He moves to live with a Mexican illegal family in L.A. The family consists of seven, of Rigoberto (father), Pati (mother), and 5 children. The two youngest of the children were born in the United States, so they are a citizens. The other three are still in the States illegally. Aciec, Alba, Ricardo, Albanidia, Karina, Sebstian and the oldest daughter Armida. He lives the life of an illegal immigrant and learns their struggles. The conflict was that the minuteman is against illegal people who cross the border without any papers because he thinks that they are taking the jobs from the citizens. Rigoberto says that they are actually doing the jobs that Americans do not want to do. The family makes very little money that is not enough for them by working as a day laborer and selling cans. They only make $15,000 a year. Frank also spends time with the rest of the family and really begins to become a part of their family and lives. He saw how hard-working the dad, Rigorberto is when Frank goes with him on a job and the mother, Patty who will do anything to make her family happy, even if that includes taking so much time to collect and recycle cans just for a five dollars. Frank went to the place where the Mexican family use to live and saw how small their town was. He was surprised of how did they live there and with all the diseases they could get living there. After that, Frank changed his opinions about immigrants and illegal people who cross the border to get a better life and better education for their children because he understood how hard is it for them to live in that small town. He stopped serving on the border after visiting the family but his attitude didn't change.
It is important to understand how other people live because many people have different lives and had different experiences with where they use to live.
